My job....

Hey all,
Well, this summer I am working here in Spokane at a food bank, that is run by Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs (SNAP). I started 3 weeks ago, and so far I have only been job shadowing, and it tends to be a lot slower paced than the excitement of the kitchen up at Calvin Crest that was my last job. When it is slow, I get bored, in fact really bored. I am one of only 3 people in the whole office my age, and probably the only Christian here. However, these are good people, and they do a good thing here, by helping people who need it most. It is times like this when I could easily think 'oh man, another day where I will just go and sit there, and be treated like I don't know how to do anything, and it is not as fun as camp was.' However, I must not let myself think like that, for then I don't even give God a chance to work in me this summer, I did love my time at camp, however this summer I felt called to stay here, and I found a great job, that pays well, and it is service oriented.
Today is one of those days where it would be easy to let my mind wander, and think that this is no fun, and boring. However, I just had my first appointment, where I did the computer work, and talked to the person, and got the food ready and gave it to her. This elderly woman made my day, she blessed me by thanking me, and showing me that indeed this is a good work I am doing up here. The sincerity in her thank you's and the smiles, truly it is better to give than to recieve. Thanks Lord for giving me that reassurance when I was getting down.
Another reason this job will be great for me is that I am forced to go out of my comfort zone, and to meet with people that I would probably walk right past on the street, because they are lower income than what I am used to seeing at Whitworth, and they sometimes are a bit dirty or smelly, however they still are children of God, and deserve to be treated as such. This job is not only paying me well, but more importantly it is giving me a new outlook to those Christ calls us to serve.
That is all for know. Constantly searching for truth, peace, and love.
Brian

Even if it's not the most exciting job in the world, it sounds like you've got a great attitude about it!

I think it's great that you get paid to help out the Spokane community! Keep on truckin'!
