Get in shape, help save the planet......

So it is indeed my spring break right now, and the past few days have been pretty great. I drove over to Vancouver, WA on Friday afternoon, and stayed there until yesterday. I made a quick day trip up to see my brother in law in Olympia (my sister was gone on some school trip) and I bought a sweet new road bike. Justin (my brother in law) works at a bike shop in Olympia, and so I went in with him to find a bike, and just learn more about road bikes. He showed me some of the bikes in the shop, and then mentioned a bike that one of his co workers at the shop built, and was selling. So I said that I would like to see it. It turns out that the woman who built the bike used to be the Cannondale Regional Manager for that area, and so she got all the top of the line equipment for the bike at cost. It is a Cannondale cyclocross frame (the same as a road bike, but can hold a little bit wider tires) that she had ground down at the shop, so there is no paint on it, and it is a single speed (which will force me to get strong), and has disc brakes, and sweet tires, a $150 dollar custom built seat, clip-in pedals, and great tires. I got the bike for $550, which is a steal, the bike and all its components would probably retail at around $1000. I really like the bike because it is unique. I plan to use it as a commuter bike, and not have to drive as much. I will use it mainly this summer, or whenever the weather gets really nice outside. It has two benifits, it will get me in great shape, and I will be doing my part to slow global warming. Ever since I saw the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" I have felt convicted, and that I need to be a better steward of this beautiful Earth that God has blessed us with. I am excited to get in great shape, and maybe even build up to riding the centennial trail out to Post Falls.
Now I am back in Spokane, and have plenty of work to do that I don't really want to do. Or at least not yet.
Here is to getting in shape, and saving the planet!!
